Caring for Ceramic Tile Floors
Ceramic tile floors are one the most durable resilient and popular flooring options. They are waterproof and require less care and maintenance as compared to other flooring options. However, they may lose their shine and get a little hazy over time. With a few simple processes, you can get the shine back.
Although ceramic tiles need less maintenance, still daily cleaning and care are necessary if you want your tiles to shine forever.
Tips for Cleaning Ceramic Floors
- Dirt is the main factor that causes dullness in the tiles. Although the tiles are dirt resistant it can still cover the shine and gradually affects the glazed surface. Sweeping or vacuuming the tiles daily can remove the dirt effectively.
- Using water and a mop is a tried and true way to clean ceramic tile floors. To clean the floors, fill the bucket with lukewarm water then add a specified quantity of detergent or cleaning agent and mix it in water. So not use a lot of soap, so it does not leave a soap residue behind. Dip the mop in the water and use it on the floor. Rinse it with
water after cleaning. Dry the floor with the help of a towel. - Stubborn stains can be removed with the help of baking soda. Instead of detergent or cleaning agent, mix baking soda and water and make a thick paste. Apply this paste on the desired area and let it get dry for 2 to 3 minutes. Gently scrub the area with the help of the towel. Rinse it completely with water. Make sure that no baking soda paste is left behind. Now at the end clean it with a dry towel leaving no marks behind. Let it get dry for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Avoid using acidic cleaning products. They will clean the floor well but will affect the durability and strength of the tiles. Acidic products weaken the ceramic tiles.
- Using oily cleaners can be dangerous as they can cause the ceramic floor to be super slick which can cause a severe injury if someone fells down. Also, they may leave a non-removable stain on the floor.
- Vinegar can be used to bring back the shine of the ceramic tiles. One thing which you need to consider is that the acidic properties of vinegar can dissolve the finish on the floor. Excessive use can even bleach the color of tiles.
- The best possible thing which you can do is to clean the floor immediately with a mop or rinse it with water as soon as you see the dirt or anything spills over it before it gets dry and forms a complete difficult to remove strain.
