Ohio’s first ever sales tax holiday is finally here and is starting at 12:01 a.m. Friday morning. So get ready to shop AND save money!
There are several different types of tax free weekend events in the U.S. And this week-end, is the tax free week-end for all counties in Ohio.
According to The Ohio Department of Taxation website at https://www.tax.ohio.gov/, S.B. 243 enacted a one-time sales tax holiday to occur only in 2015. The holiday starts on Friday, August 7, 2015 at 12:01 a.m. and ends on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 11:59 p.m.
During the holiday, the following items are exempt from sales and use tax:
- Clothing priced at $75 per item or less;
- School supplies priced at $20 per item or less; and
- School instructional material priced at $20 per item or less.
The following items are not available for tax exemption:
- Computers
- iPads
- Phones costing more than $20
- Printers
- Expensive gym shoes costing more than $75 (which includes most current-year Nike shoes.Also, items used in a trade or business are not exempt under the sales tax holiday.
It may not be as exciting as Black Friday but it is a way to save money for all of the back to school supplies the kids need! Just like with Black Friday, the stores are ready to help you save.
