Summer is in full swing and it is hard to imagine that our kids will be back to school in just a few short weeks. Coinciding with school starting is also the beginning of school sports. Sports are great. Kids playing sports is great. Dirty sports equipment from our kids playing sports….not so great! Participating in sports are widely recognized as a tool of child development. As important as it is to healthy development, it can also be unhealthy!
Bacteria, viruses, and molds are a big part of our athlete’s athletic gear. But fear not! There are ways to lift dirt and debris and restore cleanliness to your children’s athletic gear. We have compiled a list of great tips to minimize the dirt, odors and germs that affect sports equipment and ultimately can affect the health of our children.
Wipe it down – use a disinfecting bleach solution to wipe down and disinfect equipment and other hard surfaces. A mixture of bleach and water can be used to wipe down pads, balls and other hard non-porous surfaces.

Make a routine for clean – regularly clean or disinfect sports equipment like balls, racket grips, bats with a disinfecting bleach solution (3/4 cup of disinfecting bleach diluted in 1 gallon of water, or as directed).
Dishwasher – Using the dishwasher to clean mouthgards, baseball caps, shin guards, knee pads and even shoes is a great idea. It is time saving, too!
